A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR GRANULAR SOILS

A mathematical model is developed to predict the mechanical behaviour of granular soils for quasi-static loading. The model employs a combination of variable modulus, non-linear response and plastic work-hardening with the loading function dependent on plastic volumetric strain. The model is able to reproduce the non-linear hysteretic behaviour observed in all of the usual tests such as uniaxial strain, uniaxial stress with superimposed hydrostatic pressure and simple shear.
