FOYLE BRIDGE: DESIGN AND TENDER IN A DESIGN AND BUILD COMPETITION
The paper discusses the positions of the concractor and designer in design-and-build tender procedures and compares them with their respective roles under normal UK tendering practice. It then describes the setting up of the RDL-Graham joint venture for the design and construction of the Foyle Bridge. Brief details are given of the various schemes investigated and the basis for the choice of the scheme tendered. There follows a description of the bridge, as constructed, and information on the main features of the design. (Author/TRRL)
