TESTS WITH A SVN HEAVY VEHICLE SIMULATOR ON EXPERIMENTAL SECTIONS WITH BASES OF WATERBOUND MACADAM AT MARIANHILL, PINETOWN, NATAL

TOETSE MET 'N SWAARVOERTUIGNABOOTSER (SVN) OP EKSPERIMENTELE WATERGEBINDEMACADAMSEKSIES TE MARIANHILL, PINETOWN-OMGEWING, NATAL

This report describes the execution of hvs tests on two experimental sections with bases of waterbound macadam with depths of 150 mm and 235 mm at Marianhill, Pinetown, Natal. The performance of these pavement structures is described in detail and analysed by means of mechanistic methods. Densities of the waterbound macadams are measured with a new density apparatus. The influence of the density monitored with the permanent deformation behaviour, resilient deflection and effective elastic moduli are determined together with values of water permeability. Recommendations are made on the use of waterbound macadam as well as additional research work that will have to be carried out. (TRRL)
