CURRENT TECHNIQUES IN GROUNDWATER CONTROL APPLIED TO CUT SLOPES

Ground water with its influence on stress in soil and rock leads to the failure of many cut slopes. In local design practices ground water is seldom studied in any detail, and its control is thus usually first considered after failure or signs of failure of a cut slope. This paper summarises preliminary recognition of ground water problems and the influence of ground water on cut slopes, and discusses the range of remedial measures used to control excessive pressures or flows of ground water.
