RESULTS OF A SYSTEMS ANALYSIS OF THE ENERGY SUPPLY PROSPECTS FOR ROAD TRANSPORT IN THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY

ERGEBNISSE SYSTEMANALYTISCHER PROJEKTIONEN ZUR ENERGIEVERSORGUNG DES STRASSENVERKEHRS IN DER BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND

The systems analysis projections described here indicate that future energy supplies for the transport sector can be regarded as secure since more economic and rational use will bring about a reduction in demand. Under the assumptions chosen here crude oil consumption will decrease considerably. The increasing efficiency of engines and the growth of alternative fuels will cause a sharp drop in petrol consumption. Diesel fuel will become one of the most important energy sources in the transport sector, and methanol has the prospect of assuming economic importance, as has lpg. There will be no market opportunities for ethanol, cng, hydrogen and electricity, in the time period and scenario considered here. (TRRL)
