AN EXAMINATION OF ALTERNATIVE METHODS FOR EMPLOYING BOOMS TO CONTAIN OIL SPILLS IN NAVY HARBORS
A plan is formulated which enables a decision maker to determine the relative effectiveness of three methods for employing oil spill containment boom. The evaluation is based on a utility analysis of three defined methods for employing oil spill containment boom. A decision analysis technique is employed to determine the relative importance of parameters indicating the utility of each method for boom employment. The plan provides a means for balancing cost considerations against potential benefits. (Modified author abstract)
