EFFECT OF CHANGES IN THE HOURS OF SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON ALCOHOL-RELATED VARIABLES: A LITERATURE REVIEW

The purpose of this paper is to review the effect of changes in the hours of sale of alcoholic beverages on alcohol-related variables. The Literature Review is divided into three parts according to whether the papers focus on the introduction of Sunday alcohol sales, the extension of trading hours, or trading hours for alcoholic beverages in general. Prior to the introduction of Sunday alcohol sales in Perth, South Australia and New South Wales Committees of Inquiry compiled reports for presentation to State Parliaments. The relevant sections of these reports and the 1965 Victorian Royal Commission are also reviewed as they provide an interesting commentary on the reasons given for the legislative changes.
