ENERGY IMPACTS OF ACCELERATED RETIREMENT OF LESS EFFICIENT PASSENGER CARS

This report investigates the energy impacts of a federal program to accelerate the retirement of older, less fuel efficient domestic passenger cars. Using an accounting model of light duty vehicle fuel demand, a set of three cases were established and analyzed to assess the fuel consumption impacts of alternative assumptions regarding the effect of accelerated passenger car retirement program on new car sales and travel demand.
