PAVEMENT MATERIALS, PART 2: NATURAL GRAVEL, SAND- CLAY AND SOFT AND FISSILE ROCK

This publication is one of five booklets, each of which summarises one aspect of Australian practice in selection and testing of gravels and soils for pavement construction. Part 2 intends to serve as a guide to those who may be required to prepare specifications for natural gravel, sand- clay, or soft and fissile rock for use in pavement and shoulder construction or to evaluate potential sources of such materials. It discusses the factors influencing performance and identifies properties which are considered relevant in determining their suitability for use. Methods of test used to quantify these properties are described. Appropriate limits for these properties are suggested and, for materials for which properties are judged to be deficient in any particular aspect or for any specific application, techniques for improvement are mentioned. The ISBN of the 5 volume set is 0-85588-093-7. (TRRL)
