Ride harshness is an important evaluation item of ride comfort. A theoretical analysis of harshness was made with the tire and suspension represented by a finite element model. It has been confirmed that the present analysis method is applicable to analysis of relatively high frequency vibrations and facilitates identification and evaluation of relevant factors. Use of this analytic method has also made possible clarification of vibrational characteristics of ride harshness. Further, analysis was made on the correlationship of ride comfort with handling and stability, and one method for investigating that correlationship is described.(a)
