THE BIPARAMETRIC CURVE. A PLANIMETRIC HIGHWAY TRANSITION CURVE OF PROGRESSIVE CURVATURE

LA CURVA BIPARAMETRICA QUALE RACCORDO PLANIMETRICO STRADALE A GRADIENTE DI CURVATURA PROGRESSIVO

The progressive transition curve defined in this article can eliminate the angular points of discontinuity of the more frequently used clothoid curve. This curve, called "biparametric" or "bi-hyperclothoid", can be represented in the curvature-space plane as the difference of two hyperclothoids of different parameters. The cartesian, approximate and series equations used in the development of the curve are shown, and an example is given of its application. It can be applied to road and railway alignments. (TRRL)
