STATISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS ON THE SAND EQUIVALENT TEST

CONSIDERAZIONI STATISTICHE SULLA PROVA DELL'EQUIVALENTE IN SABBIA

The objective of the study described was threefold: (1) to establish a possible correlation between sand equivalent test values and Atterberg limits; (2) to examine the various test procedures provided in Italian and foreign standards; and (3) to establish the reliability limits of the test by determining its repeatability. Results show a repeatability of the order of 5-6 points from 30 pilot tests conducted on 4 materials of sand equivalent values between 30 and 100%. This repeatability seems to be independent of the "level" of magnitude of the sand equivalent. The normality hypothesis of observed distributions was acceptable to a 5% level of confidence. (TRRL)
