GERMAN STANDARDS, SAFETY REGULATIONS AND PTB APPROVAL REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPLOSION PROTECTED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
In the Federal Republic of Germany, the PTB is responsible for safety technology, especially for type-testing electrical apparatus and certifying the compliance with the relevant standards and specifications. The advance of of modern production techniques, unfortunately brings with it somewhat increased hazards for the working people and for the factory installation. In Germany, work in the field of safety techniques has been developed into a very important working sector of the political economy. In this, testing authorities, inspection organizations, and industry are working closely together for the achievement and continuous improvement of legal regulations, standards, international recommendations and safety rules; also, construction and test specifications, and inspection and accident-prevention methods. For the large amount of work which results from this, the PTB becomes drawn-in both in an advisory function, and as a responsible test and consultative body; at the same time international coordination work is promoted in this area.
