QUICK DETERMINATION OF THE CREEP PRESSURE IN LOESS SOILS

DETERMINACION RAPIDA DE LA PRESION DE FLUENCIA EN SUELOS LOESICOS

A method to determine the susceptibility to collapse from deformation of soils with a macroporous structure is presented. It is based on the specific deformation properties of these kinds of soils, according to a unique variation law for each load state after saturation. A basic test is proposed consisting of saturating the sample with a low pressure in such a way that the bonds between particles become unstable. When it is charged with a higher pressure, the strains reach, in only a few seconds, a variation law which corresponds to the extension of the "secondary phase" of the collapse. Strains are fitted to the same linear variation law, so that they can be known at any moment for a specific pressure, and then the creep or collapse pressure can be obtained. What is stressed is the simplicity in the attainment of the saturated pressure and the fact that it is not necessary to determine the creep pressure with natural humidity, since the only determination of the saturated creep pressure gives us the necessary information about collapse susceptibility of the soil.
