A NATURAL DEATH WHILE DRIVING A MOTOR VEHICLE

LUONNOLLINEN KUOLEMA MOOTTORIAJONEUVOLLA AJON AIKANA

Sudden death caused by illness as a cause for driving off the road or similar accident represents only less than 4% of the driving-off accidents in the entire country, where the passenger or driver has been killed. It is thus a rather rare cause. Death is almost always caused by coronary thrombosis and the victim is a man in his 60's with a diagnosed illness or with preceding symptoms of chest pain. One third have had heart-based pains during the week preceding the death. The material is composed on the traffic accidents investigated by the road accident investigation teams in Finland during 1970-1975. (TRRL)
