The design of diamond interchanges must take account of many factors, such as the physical limitations of the site, human performance and vehicle characteristics. This paper discusses the effects that such factors have on the geometric design of diamond interchanges, and illustrates the thinking that has been, and is continuing to be, put into the development of design standards. This working paper is based on a thesis submitted in fulfillment of one-eighth of the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering Science in the Department of Civil Engineering. (TRRL)
