DIGITAL MODEL USED FOR THE STRENGTHENING OF AN ARCH BY A COUNTER-ARCH IN REINFORCED CONCRETE

VERIFICATION PAR UN MODELE NUMERIQUE DU RENFORCEMENT D'UNE VOUTE PAR UNE CONTRE-VOUTE EN BETON ARME

After significant damage of the Levallois bridge as a result of differential foundation settlement, its condition was considered sufficiently deteriorated to justify rapid strengthening before working on the foundations. The strengthening consists in applying, under the arches of the viaduct, counter-arches in reinforced concrete precast on a center near the structure, positioned under the structure and then applied by means of jacks, the sliding between the two arches taking place over a sheet of polyethylene. This new type of strengthening requires verification by the calculation of stresses resulting from the various loads on the entire structure. After having demonstrated the limits of modelling by a program using bars and beams, the article looks into the results of calculations based upon the Rosalie finite-element program of the LPCP. Emphasis is placed on modelling from the viewpoint of contact with a description of the different criteria governing the friction-separation conditions.
