RECOMMENDED PRACTICE FOR ROADWAY SIGN LIGHTING

The legibility of highway signs is an important aspect of the driving task. Recognizing this, the Roadway Lighting Committee in the early 1970's prepared recommendations that would provide a uniform means of lighting signs so that the message and sign shapes and color will appear the same, night or day. This recommended practice is a revision and expansion of that report, "Roadway Sign illumination," published in October 1974.
