FERRO-CARBON ALLOYS AND THEIR USE ON THE RAILROADS

LE LEGHE FERRO-CARBONIO ED IL LORO IMPIEGO NELLE FERROVIE

An examination is made of ferrocarbon alloys, which represent at least 90% of the metallic material used on the railway. Their micro-structural characteristics are examined, and from these are obtained, for the various materials, the more typical mechanical properties and fields of utilization, with particular reference to the railway field. With numerous (25) micro and macrographs, a detailed illustration is given of the effect of treatment on steel at 0.2% carbon. In 4 tables are reproduced data on production mostly for 1972, of various metallic materials, with particular reference to steel, the data on which also refer to the modes of production and to the particular forms in which the product is marketed.
