SLAG STABILIZED SAND FOR FOREST ROADS

SLAKKENZANDSTABILISATIE VAN BOSWEGEN

In order to reduce maintenance to forest roads, a process to stabilize these roads with blast furnance slag-sand and a little portland cement was developed. Requirements for the materials were drawn up. On the basis of an investigation beforehand, a mix composition of 100% sand, 30% blast furnace slag-sand and 3% cement was chosen. A detailed description of the construction of the layer is given. The density, state of compaction and moisture content of this layer were determined. After one month the CBR-value was found to be circa 95%. It is stressed that the layer is sensitive to frost. (TRRL)
