INFLUENCING SPEED BEHAVIOUR BY CARRIAGEWAY MARKING - PSYCHOLOGICAL BRAKING

BEEINFLUSSUNG DES GESCHWINDIGKEITSVERHALTENS DURCH BODENMARKIERUNG - PSYCHOBREMSE

On a junction in Graz in Austria a high number of accidents occurred because of the high speed of approaching vehicles. A carriageway marking was applied and the number of accidents decreased. The marking was applied in such a way that the carriageway was narrowed. The optical image of the carriageway was modified and a psychological braking situation was made. The distance between the stripes became smaller as they neared the junction. For the covering abstract see TRIS 385386. (TRRL)
