AUTOMOTIVE RIM (REACTION INJECTION MOULDING) POTENTIAL - TODAY AND TOMORROW

Rim continues to be an economic alternative to plastics part manufacturing and has shown considerable growth in automobile fascia components; reinforced RIM (RRIM) is helping to solidify that position. RRIM coupled with the development of higher-modulus urethanes and potential alternative rim systems will spur the growth of rim in exterior body panels. Several examples of today's aerodynamically-designed automobiles and the future look of experimental and concept cars show a viable place for RIM in exterior automobile design. This paper was presented at the Plastics and Rubber Institute Conference: Drive for Plastics, London October 1982. (Author/TRRL)
