RESIDENTIAL TRIP GENERATION SOCIO-ECONOMIC VARIABLE EXPLANATORY POWER PERFORMANCE

Socio-economic variables - household structure, household income, household car availability, stage in the family life-cycle, socio-economic status, occupation of head of household and number of workers per household - are created, categorised and tested for explanatory power in a category analysis model using one-dimensional graphic, matrix completeness, analysis of variance and coefficient of variation methods. From the results obtained in these tests it is shown that number of workers per household and stage in the family life-cycle outperform the conventional variables in terms of explanatory power for the trip purposes of work and education while also greatly simplifying the model structure.
