PALM OIL AS A DIESEL ENGINE FUEL

Palm oil, a solid at ambient temperatures, was used as a fuel in a diesel engine with only minor modifications to supply heat to the fuel tank and line. The engine ran satisfactorily at light load settings but required more fuel heating for high injector settings. Power obtained was less than that anticipated from the measured properties of the palm oil. When the fuel temperature was varied, it was found that performance curves exhibited a peak which occurred at lower temperatures as engine speed was increased. The paper is No. 83013. (Author/TRRL)
