SOME EFFECTS OF REINFORCMENT ON THE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF SAND: PART 1. SOME EFFECTS OF REINFORCEMENT ON THE SHEAR STRENGTH AND FAILURE OF LIGHTLY OVERCONSOLIDATED KAOLIN: PART 2

Following an introductory first chapter which mainly reviews previous research work, this dissertation is divided into two parts. Part 1 contains chapters 2, the direct shear apparatus and experimental techniques; 3, the behaviour of Leighton Buzzard sand and the interpretation of shear box tests; 4, main effects of reinforcement on the deformation and failure of sand; 5, consideration of the main variables for reinforcement of sand; 6, interference between reinforcements and its influence on the shear strength of reinforced sand; and 7, the pull-out test. Part 2 contains chapters 8, reinforcement in clay; and 9, concluding remarks. (TRRL)
