VIBRATIONS OF AXIALLY LOADED STIFFENED CYLINDRICAL SHELLS. PART II. EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS
To complement a parallel theoretical analysis experiments were conducted on seven different clamped cylindrical aluminum shells: one isotropic shell, four shells stiffened by external stringers, and two strengthened by external rings. In all the experiments smooth experimental curves of frequency versus axial load were obtained for different modes of vibration. The agreement between the experimental and the corresponding theoretical curves is good, but in most of the cases the experimental frequencies were slightly lower than the theoretical ones. As in previous experiments, experimental buckling loads were lower than the calculated ones. A possibility of nondestructive determination of the buckling load, by means of vibrations measurements was considered. (Modified author abstract)
