TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT. TRAFFIC CONTROL IN URBAN AREAS. MEASURES, EFFECTS AND INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT - TRAFIKREGLERING I TAETORTER: AATGAERDER, EFFEKTER OCH INFORMATIONSBEHOV.

The concept of integrated urban traffic management has large difficulties in gaining common acceptance in Sweden, for a number of reasons. The report surveys some more important methods and results in order to help overcome this difficulty. Details are given of a method for the evaluation of traffic control measures in existing networks, based on a simple simulation of traffic flows. Finally, the information requirements of IUTM are discussed in more detail. It is concluded that standardized measures of effects and prediction methods are more important than standardized data bases, and that the elements of such measures and methods are already available.
