REACTION OF STIFFENED AND COAXIAL CYLINDRICAL SHELLS TO IMPACT LOADS

REAKTSIYA PODKREPLENNYKH I SOOSNYKH TSILINDRICHESKIKH OBOLOCHEK NA UDARNUYU NAGRUZKU

The behavior of coaxial and stringer-stiffened cylindrical shells under axial impact by an absolutely solid body is investigated. Stringers and diaphragms are considered as having no mass and no dimension in the direction of the generatrix. It is found that the process of impact buckling can be conditionally divided into two phases--the subcritical and transcritical phase. The critical time is the natural boundary between the two phases. Relations of dependence of the critical time on impact velocity and other variable parameters are presented. The results obtained are based on numerical integration of nonlinear wave equations with the aid of the Minsk-22 digital computer.
