ALTERNATIVES FOR THE ADJUDICATION OF TRAFFIC OFFENCES

ALTERNATIEVEN VOOR DE AFHANDELING VAN VERKEERSDELIKTEN

The central problem for the authorities in the preservation of the traffic regulations is the overload caused by the large number of traffic offences. It is this overload that necessitates a choice being made between alternative methods for the adjudication of traffic offences: more personnel, more material for the different authorities concerned with enforcement; more courts of justice; more personnel for the police; less imprisonment; more direct payment of the fee to the police; payment by cheque before a verdict; less administration for the courts or police; the introduction of a point demerit system. In this report the advantages of the introduction of such a point system are stressed. (TRRL)
