A ROTATING MOORING AND STORAGE SYSTEM IS BEING CONSIDERED

A system designed by Entreprise des Travaux Petroliers Maritimes would be capable of berthing two 500,000 dwt tankers simultaneously, storing up to 4,500,000 bbl of oil, and adjusting to wind, wave, and current conditions. Tankers could be berthed on either or both sides of a floating pier anchored to a pin around which the pier would rotate. An RMS has been designed for installation in an area with a water depth of 120 ft and a maximum wave height of 34 ft. This facility could accommodate two 350,000 dwt or smaller tankers and would be capable of storing 1,500,000 bbl of oil.
