A survey covers the various types of terminals, such as single-point mooring buoys, conventional piers, island-type terminals, floating piers, and dredged harbors; docking factors, including navigation improvements and navigational aids that permit docking without tugs communications; fendering developments; and environmental considerations with respect to systems of operation, automatic and manual valve controls, means for handling spilled oil, and general prevention of accidents through better communications, training, procedures, and fire-protection systems.
