NORWAY PREPARES FOR ROLE AS AN OIL PRODUCER
Two single-buoy moorings designed for tankers up to 60,000 dwt will transfer crude oil from wells in the Ekofisk field in the North Sea via a temporary production platform with no intermediate storage. Earlier plans to use two tankers as floating field storage are now believed unnecessary. Phillips Petroleum Co. is using the jack-up rig "Gulftide" as a temporary field production platform until fixed platforms can be designed and built. The general status of oil exploration and production in Norwegian waters in the North Sea is discussed.
