DEVELOPMENT OF IMPROVED PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE RELATIONSHIPS FOR BRAZIL

The authors suggest that pavement performance models, developed in North America and Europe for the planning, design, construction and rehabilitation of pavements do not necessarily apply to countries such as Brazil. Such prediction models should reflect the conditions to which they are being applied and must be developed according to local data and experience. The models presented in this investigation were developed for Brazilian conditions although pavement factors such as traffic loads and environment were characterised such that they can be readily applied to other countries in terms of local conditions. The performance prediction models developed are most effectively applied as part of a systems analysis approach. Consequently, a pavement design subsystem (pdss) was developed for the evaluation of a number of pavement design and rehabilitation strategies. (TRRL)
