PROGRESS REPORT ON PIPE COATINGS AND WRAPPINGS
A survey covers plasma-sprayed aluminum or aluminum oxide (under test by MK-Shand) applied to a thickness of 200 micron all the way to the end of the pipe (it is not damaged at welding temperatures); sintered polyethylene applied by Bredero-Price B.V. as a powder to heated pipe; thin film epoxy resin coatings electrostatically sprayed onto pipe lengths at 450 F by two companies, Nap-Gard (Napko Corp.) and Scotchkote (3M Co.), and field equipment by Commercial Resins Corp. for coating field girth weld areas; extruded plastic coatings by Standard Pipeprotection Co.; extruded Somastic asphalt mastic coatings by H.C. Price Co.; a wide variety of plastic tapes usually applied with a primer, but applied directly on a 48 in. dia by Lakehead Pipe Line Co.; and a brief description of some production practices for asphalt coatings (Lion Oil Co.) and for coal tar enamels.
