FUEL CONSUMPTION OF AMBASSADOR CAR, PREMIER PADMINI CAR AND MAHINDRA DIESEL JEEP
Forming part of the road user cost study, the research project described conducted fuel consumption experiments on three Indian-manufactured vehicles. The object of the experiment was to establish relationships between fuel consumption and other factors such as speed, road surface roughness and longitudinal profile of the highway. Results have shown that there is an optimum speed for each vehicle at which fuel consumption is a minimum; other speeds resulting in higher fuel consumption. Improvements to road surface roughness and vertical profile are also shown to improve fuel consumption. (TRRL)
