NEW GROUP TO BUILD ADVANCED LAY BARGE

An international consortium, including IHC-Holland, Heerema Engineering Service, Spie-Batignolles, North Sea Assets, and Bank of Scotland, has been formed to build and operate a new advanced-design pipelaying barge. The planned investment is $65 million. The barge incorporates features which will permit operations in the North Sea with improvements on the existing limits on lay speed, water depth, and pipe diameter. The new barge will have more stability than present vessels and will be able to continue operations in severe weather conditions. The barge has been ordered from IHC-Gusto, Neth., for delivery in the summer of 1974.
