JAPANESE STEEL INDUSTRY DOMINATES OUTLOOK FOR WESTERN COKING COALS

A review of developing Pacific Coast supplies and a survey of world reserves of coking coal includes a map showing the route of Cascade Pipe Line Co.'s proposed 490 mi, 24 in. dia coal slurry line from mines in the area of Fernie and Crows Nest Pass to ocean terminals at Vancouver, B.C. The line would have planned capacity of from 8 to 15 million tons/yr. Present plans call for construction to start in 1973.
