BUCKLING--AND OFFSHORE PIPELINES

An analytical and experimental investigation into the buckling characteristics of offshore pipelines, conducted since 1970, is reaching its goal of developing an experimentally verified analytical method to predict the buckling strength of undersea pipelines. A more comprehensive understanding and insight is provided into the nature of buckling in cylinders having diameter-thickness ratios (D/t) in the range of 20 to 100. Most significantly, the investigation has identified and subsequently investigated the propagating buckle phenomenon.
