SHELL'S RISER CONSTRUCTION SETS OFFSHORE REPAIR RECORD
A new 8 in. riser was built and installed by Shell Pipe Line Corp. at an offshore platform in Louisiana in a working time of 1.25 hr. In the absence of a conventional repair barge, a new method was devised to repair damage caused by Hurricane Camille. New joints were added vertically onto the end of the existing line and tack-welded into place. The lineup clamp was then removed and welding completed. More than 1000 ft of 8 in. underwater pipeline and riser was constructed in this manner.
