PULL METHOD SOLVES BRITISH OFFSHORE PIPELAYING PROBLEMS
A five-mile 36 in. pipeline from a tank farm at Tetney, England, to a mooring buoy in the Humber Estuary was built for Conoco Ltd., across 1.25 mi of swamp, 1.25 mi of salt marsh, and 2.5 mi of open water. A sea wall separating the salt marsh from the swamp was crossed using a trestle, as was also a nearby canal. A 7000 ft causeway was built from the sea wall to the beach, and strings 2625 ft long were assembled for later pulling offshore. Cost of the project was $6.6 million.
