INFLUENCE OF CRACKS IN FROZEN SOIL (PERMAFROST) ON DEFORMATION OF UNDERGROUND PIPES
Influence of cracks in frozen soil (permafrost) on deformation of underground pipes was studied in connection with the Taas-Tumus-Yakutsk gas pipeline. Experimental tests showed that when there is a free vertical plane in the form of a slit, significant deformation of the underground pipeline develops even if the changes in temperature stresses in the surface layer of the frozen soil are low both in rate and mahnitude. Damage to the pipe cna result under certain conditions from cracks in frozen soil.
