TRAFFIC SHORTCUTS - A RESPONSE PROCESS
The city of Calgary has adopted a policy and methodology for dealing with traffic problems in residential communities. In general, the policy is applied to situations where a community wishes to reduce externally generated traffic from penetrating local streets while endeavouring to maintain acceptable neighbourhood access. Occasionally a request to reduce traffic speeds, and sometimes noise, is associated with this issue. The focus of this paper, however, is on the response process established by the city of Calgary to deal with the issue of shortcutting traffic travelling through residential communities. Four case studies are reviewed. For the covering abstract of the conference see TRIS 378581. (TRRL)
