PIPELINE TRANSPORTATION OF ETHYLENE
A discussion covers size and capacity of some existing French ethylene pipelines, operating principles involved in transmission, hyper-vs subcritical regime, choice of conventional API steels having less than 0.9% manganese and a resilience of 4 kg m/sq cm at -40 c, prevention of contamination by lubricants and methanol, prevention and control of explosions and corrosion, government regulations, and economics. A 65 km line can be operated in the hypercritical regime. Minimum operating time should be 7000 hr/yr. Operating costs are 0.12-0.30 F/tonne-km.
