SEMI-SUBMERSIBLE BARGE WILL ERECT PLATFORMS, LAY PIPE LINES

The vessel "Choctaw", a semi-submersible combination derrick and pipelaying barge, has moved to the Bass Strait to work with other barges in constructing a crude line for Esso-BPH. Frequent bad weather in the area resulted in progress falling behind schedule. The "Choctaw" can work in wave and swell conditions beyond the capability of the conventional surface floating barge. Statistics for the "Choctaw" are given.
