STOCHASTIC FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF UNCERTAIN STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS
A new probability-based finite element method (stochastic finite element method) is developed based on the second order perturbation technique, which enables us to analyse structures with uncertainties. It is shown that the expectation and the variance of the solution are evaluated by solving the governing equation only once. The present method is exemplified by the successfully performed basic analyses, the stress analysis of a plate with geometrical uncertainty and the buckling analysis of a column with uncertain boundary conditions.
