PIPELINE RESEARCH GROUP REPORTS TO INDUSTRY ON LINE PIPE WORK

The Fourth Symposium sponsored by the Pipeline Research Committee of The American Gas Association was held in Dallas, 11/18-19/69, to update research results of the NG-18 project, Line Pipe Research. The present NG-18 program consists of seven different phases of work, as follows: (1) the Field Failure Investigation; (2) hydrogen stress cracking; (3) stress-corrosion cracking; (4) full-scale studies (fracture initiation, hydrostatic testing, and practure propagation); (5) fundamental fracture studies; (6) pipe manufacturing variables; and (7) pipe yield-strength measurements. Defects that have caused pipeline failures are summarized in tabular data. The description of defects has been divided into two categories: (1) those that cause failures in the preservice tests; and (2) those that cause failures in service.
