RATE OF CONVERGENCE FOR THE ITERATIVE APPROACH IN ELASTIC-PLASTIC ANALYSIS OF CONTINUA
In connection with the finite element method, the iterative approach has been commonly used for the analysis of elastic-plastic continua. The rate of convergence of iteration is investigated in the present paper; it depends largely upon the ratio of tangent modulus to Young's modulus, accuracy of the first guess for the exact solution and occurrence of unloading. In the case of finite displacements the rate of convergence is closely related to the stability characteristics of the continua in the sense of Shanley.
