RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN HIGH-STRENGTH NICKEL-BASE ALLOYS RESISTANT TO HOT CORROSION

The operation of marine gas turbines is to some extent limited by the lack of materials having, in suitable combination, high-temperature strength and resistance to corrosion by sea-salt mixtures. Factors affecting the stress-rupture life, stability, and high-temperature corrosion-resistance of nickel-chromium are briefly described. The properties are outlined of a new series of nickel-base alloys developed to provide improved resistance to hot corrosion together with mechanical properties appropriate to blading and sheet components of marine gas turbines.
