MONOBUOY SYSTEM PROPOSED FOR U.S. FIRST SUPERPORT
As a first step toward meeting the energy problem, the report recommends construction of a monobuoy type installation for the proposed superport to be built 30 miles offshore from Freeport, Texas. Two to six monobuoys would be located around a pumping platform. A hybridized version of the system is recommended which would involve construction of a monobuoy in a water depth of 60 feet with the capacity to expand to deeper water or alternatively to dredge around such a shallow buoy to obtain the 100 foot depth.
