The benefits which have resulted from the application of Work Study to dock maintenance work have been considerable. When the Planned Maintenance Schemes were introduced a reduction of approximately 12 per cent was made in the work force and the overall working performance of the tradesmen rose by some 45 per cent. These two factors allowed a greater scheduled work load to be accomplished at a reduced working cost. The reduction in the work force was achieved through natural wastage.
